Indepenence and affiliation allows FIEC churches to govern themselves and fellowship with one another.
Our church is known as an evangelical church which can be confusing to many people. The expression evangelical comes from a Greek word meaning ‘the good news.’ So Horsell Evangelical church literally means, the church in Horsell sharing ‘good news’.
The ‘good news’ that we proclaim as a church is that we have sinned and deserve God’s wrath, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God – Romans 3:23”, however, God Himself is merciful and came into the world in the person of Jesus Christ – to die upon a cross to wash away our sin, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us – Romans 5:8.”
That if we would but repent (turn from our sin and towards God), believing and trusting in His sacrifice upon the cross and His resurrection to life on the third day – we can be brought into a relationship with Him. We can be given a fresh start and a new life to live and serve Him. “Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. – John 3:3.”
And this is the ‘good news’ – that we can have peace with God through His Son. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. – Acts 4:12.”
What is the Gospel?
As a church we are affiliated to the FIEC and meet together every Sunday to worship God, learn more about Him and encourage one another to grow more like Christ. Our church is a community of people of mainly older ages and backgrounds who meet and sing mainly traditional but also contemporary hymns.
Whilst we are part of the FIEC affiliation of churches, we also have a close connection with Providence Baptist Church Knaphill, Send Evangelical, Chilworth Free Church and Horsely Evangelical Church – meeting regularly throughout the year to have United Prayer Meetings and fellowship.
We are a fellowship of Independent churches with members of the family across England, Scotland and Wales. Our mission is to see those Independent churches working together with a big vision: to reach Britain for Christ.
Being part of FIEC links you to a growing number of Independent evangelical churches and there are now more than 50,000 people who are part of churches affiliated to FIEC.
