About us - who we are and what we believe
The origins of Horsell Evangelical church stretch back more than a hundred years. However we are not obsessed by the past but seek to glorify God today. Here are some of the ways in which we would describe ourselves:

A Christian Church :  Many people feel that the days have gone when Christians could claim that Christ is the only Saviour. We respect people of other faiths and have no desire to force our beliefs upon them. However, we are convinced that in Jesus Christ, God uniquely became a man, died on the cross for the forgiveness and salvation of all those who will believe in him, and rose from the dead, assuring his people of eternal life. Therefore we are not ashamed to call all people from every nation to worship only Christ.

An Evangelical Church : We use the term "evangelical" in the historic sense - meaning Bible believing and teaching - and not as representing an excitable and emotional style of conducting worship with which the term has come to be associated in recent times. Our services are what many would recognise as traditional in structure, with both modern and older hymns, Bible readings and a sermon. We are convinced that, as the Word of God, the Bible is the only reliable guide to help us to understand God and his purpose for us. We also use the term "evangelical" to represent our desire to share with others the good news of forgiveness, fellowship with God and eternal life which God has provided through Jesus Christ.

An Independent Church :  We have no governing body beyond the local congregation but this does not mean that we are isolationist or a cult. In fact we seek to maintain warm relationships with any church which holds firmly to the central doctrines of the Christian faith. To that end we are affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC), a fellowship of almost 500 churches nation-wide.

A Church for Today :  Though we follow a Saviour who walked the earth about two thousand years ago, and we read a book completed not long afterwards, we remain convinced that this ancient faith speaks to today's world. We are ordinary people from different backgrounds, united by a desire to glorify God in the modern world. Whether you have been a Christian for years or are thinking about Christianity for the first time, we want you to feel welcome.
